Money Doesn't Make It
Innerspace 7707

Daevid Allen's University Of Errors: Daevid Allen (vocals, guitar); Jay Radford
(guitar, saz); Josh Pollock (guitar); Erik Pearson (flute); Michael Clare (bass);
Pat Thomas (drums, percussion).

Recorded at Komotion, San Francisco, California on September 26 & 27, 1998.

Best known as the impish leader of '70s psychedelic legends Gong, Daevid
Allen has enjoyed a long, fruitful post-Gong artistic life, collaborating with
everyone from Soft Machine bassist Hugh Hopper to New York art-noise
maven Kramer. On MONEY DOESN'T MAKE IT, Allen leads a band of
unknowns through a musical journey that touches on several aspects of his
career. There's a pronounced post-punk edginess and rhythmic insistency to
some tunes, with repetitive guitar riffs taking center stage.

Elsewhere the Daevid of old emerges, scatting in Eastern modalities like a
jazz guru over spacey, atmospheric backdrops of shimmering, heavily
processed guitar. The blend of new and old shows that Allen can stay true to
the psychedelic spirit he's well known for while still taking his studied
kookiness someplace new.
